comparison between fat max and maximal fat oxidation in active and sedentary males

چکیده
background the purpose of this study was to determine appropriate intensity of activity with fatmax during incremental exercise in the active and sedentary male participants. material and methods in this study, 11 active male students(vo2max42.87±1.75ml.kg-1.min-1,bmi 21.40±1.01 kg.m2) and 9 sedentary male students(vo2max36.57±2.95ml.kg-1.min-1, bmi 24.28±1.83kg.m2) were selected as the active and sedentary groups. participants performed an incremental test with three minutes intervals on the treadmill. exercise intensity was measured in all phases by measuring oxygen consumption. also, heart rate and the fat oxidation was measured using indirect calorimetric. independent t-test was used to compare the mean fatmax in the two groups. also two-way analysis of variance(anova) with repeated measurements was used to compare fatmax at 7 levels of exercise intensity between the two groups at α≤0.05 confidence interval level. also, the pearson correlation coefficient was used to measure the relationship between vo2max and maximal fat oxidation(mfo). results there was no significant difference between fat max of the active and sedentary groups, in terms of vo2max and hrmax percentage, but the difference between mfo in the active and sedentary groups was significant(p=0.001). the results also showed that there are significant differences in fat oxidation during 7 levels of intensity training between the active and sedentary males(p=0.001). also, there was a significant correlation between vo2max and fatmax of two groups(p=0.002).

Comparison of maximal fat oxidation and Fatmax between active and inactive elderly men
Background&Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare of maximal fat oxidation and the exercise intensity that elicit maximal fat oxidation (Fatmax) between active and inactive elderly men. Methodology: 10 healthy elderly men that had regular exercise (at least 10 past years, ,VO2max 44.6±4.5 ml.kg.min) and 10 healthy elderly men that hadn’t any regular exercise (at least 10 past years, VO2m...
متن کاملRelationship between training status and maximal fat oxidation rate.
This study aimed to compare maximal fat oxidation rate parameters between moderate- and low-performance runners. Eighteen runners performed an incremental treadmill test to estimate individual maximal fat oxidation rate (Fatmax) based on gases measures and a 10,000-m run on a track. The subjects were then divided into a low and moderate performance group using two different criteria: 10,000-m t...
متن کاملFat oxidation rate and the exercise intensity that elicits maximal fat oxidation decreases with pubertal status in young male subjects.
The range of exercise intensities that elicit high fat oxidation rates (FOR) in youth and the influence of pubertal status on peak FOR are unknown. In a longitudinal design, we compared FOR over a range of exercise intensities in a small cohort of developing prepubertal male subjects. Five boys all at Tanner stage 1 (ages 11-12 yr) and nine men (ages 20-26 yr) underwent an incremental cycle erg...
متن کاملMaximal fat oxidation during exercise is positively associated with 24-hour fat oxidation and insulin sensitivity in young, healthy men.
Disturbances in fat oxidation have been associated with an increased risk of obesity and metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance. There is large intersubject variability in the capacity to oxidize fat when a person is physically active, although the significance of this for metabolic health is unclear. We investigated whether the maximal capacity to oxidize fat during exercise is related...
متن کاملMaximal Fat Oxidation Rates in an Athletic Population.
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to describe maximal fat oxidation (MFO) rates in an athletic population. METHOD In total, 1121 athletes (933 males and 188 females), from a variety of sports and competitive level, undertook a graded exercise test on a treadmill in a fasted state (≥5 h fasted). Rates of fat oxidation were determined using indirect calorimetry. RESULTS The average MFO w...
